Research Needs and Funding in Produce Safety

This webcast will discuss research needs of both readily applicable techniques and solving long-term problems, as well as funding opportunities in the area of produce safety.

Both industry and government provide funding opportunities for research related to produce safety. The Center for Produce Safety (CPS) established by public and private partnership at the University of California, Davis, CPS aims to fund original research that is ready-to-use by produce industry to prevent or minimize fresh produce safety vulnerabilities. USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture also offer several programs to support research related to produce safety. FDA (and CDC) tracks the outbreaks of foodborne illness associated with fresh produce and provide science-based guideline to the industry to minimize microbial contaminations in various fresh produce.  There is an acute need to develop effective solutions and strategies to reduce the outbreaks of foodborne disease related to the production of fresh produce.
